15 years after capturing the power and soul of pre-country Luke O'Shea & Medicine Wheel - the studio album is released.

Many moons ago there was a band…

Medicine Wheel was its name and it was fronted by a young, singer-songwriter, called Luke O’Shea.

After living and touring abroad for eight years, throughout Canada, the United States, Japan, Ireland and Great Britain, Luke returned home to Terra Australis to pursue his music career within the evaporating live music scene. It was the late 1990’s where angst driven grunge was being replaced by more melodic alt-rock – and the competitive and corporate ‘Battle of the Bands’ – were all the rage.

After claiming a few titles – Medicine Wheel – with varying musicians, slowly built up a solid reputation as an explosive live band– but once again after returning home busted arse broke from another run up and down the East Coast, a disgruntled O’Shea stumbles across the Tamworth Country Music Festival. Greatly inspired by what he sees, hears and feels, Luke’s writing and recording takes a notable turn and soon afterwards Luke O’Shea & Medicine Wheel are signed to ABC/Universal Music Australia, giving Luke a loving step up into the Country Music fraternity. Twenty years, seven albums and nine Golden Guitars later, Luke O’Shea is now firmly established within the Australian Country Music family – and is widely regarded as one of its finest writers.

However… before completely surrendering over to the stories, instrumentation and production of Australian country music – Luke teamed up with long time collaborators, David Sleishman on drums – Kiwi guitarist, Phil Doublet – and bass player, producer Matt Fell, – with the pure, muse-driven focus of capturing the songs and the very special wikka – that was Medicine Wheel.

Now due to the politics of varying labels, managers, distributors, agents, branding and all the other bullshit that goes hand in hand with a career in music – this Luke O’Shea / Medicine Wheel project – was never released. Bizarrely – for 15 long, crazy years, this incredible collection of songs have simply been patiently waiting – just bouncing around – like a rogue Pinball.

As Luke finally decrees, “It is my sincere pleasure to finally share this project with you. It will certainly give you – the listener – an insight as to where I came from musically – and what fuelled me around planet for so long. The songs and stories are still identifiably Luke O’Shea but perhaps the lyrics are a little more cryptic with more universal themes. I sincerely love the distinct energy, power and passion behind each track – where the combined focus, musicianship and production skills of Phil, Matt and myself have made many of these songs far bigger than the sum of its parts. I hope you enjoy – and if so – please share Pinball with friends and music lovers, far and wide!”

Never Never Land -Awards for directing the Video of the Year & for Heritage Song of the Year.

Never Say Never!
Luke O’Shea & Tom Curtain were awarded Video Clip of the Year & the coveted Heritage Song of the Year at the 2018 CMAA Golden Guitars held recently at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
Singing up the remarkable Top End in the Northern Territory, Luke & Tom wrote the song in Katherine and then later went on to direct and shoot the breathtaking film clip.
“There was no smoke and mirrors with this song and film clip.” Luke said, “Our mission was to capture the power and the passion of the landscape and people who live in a truly magnificent part of the world. The fact it connected and resonated with people enough for them to put their name next to ours and vote for us – is deeply humbling and satisfying knowing that we had done our job!”

Luke O’Shea along with his long time friend John Krsulja were named Golden Guitar winners for the 2017 CMAA Heritage Song of the Year.
This takes Lukes tally to seven Golden Guitars – four for the coveted Heritage Song of the Year.
The Old Man’s Shed is the fourth single off Luke O’Shea’s acclaimed album Caught Up In The Dreaming – which was also a 2017 Finalist for ‘Album of the Year’.
Luke said of the win – “It was such a magical moment for John and I – and for what is a very special song for the both of us. We wrote the Old Man’s Shed to celebrate our fathers and to sing up the generations of pre-Bunnings Australian gentlemen, who had that Shed / Shrine somewhere in the backyard, where they would work, fix and make things with precious tools that were slowly accrued, collected and rarely shared!” Luke continues, “We knew this song was very special due to it’s abiltiy to connect deeply with audiences of all ages, sex, colour, cult, creed, and it’s quite magical to see the tears and laughter flow – somehow all within a three and a half minute song.”

Very happy to share the news that my latest CD – Caught Up In The Dreaming – has been announced a three time finalist in the upcoming 2017 CMAA Golden Guitar Awards, for Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year & Heritage Song of the Year – for the song ‘The Old Man’s Shed’ written with long time friend Johnny K.

The fact people and my peers have stolen time from their busy lives to listen and connect with the stories and songs on this album – that myself and co-producer Benjy Pocock – invested so much of our lives (& maximum joy) into – is supremely satisfying and humbling!

Sincere thanks goes out to all who listened, connected and voted! Your faith in me truly encourages me to keep on keeping on and singing up this remarkable land & the amazing people who live upon it!!

And if I don’t get the chance to say it in person – Merry Christmas & a Happy & Safe New Year!!
